In The Name of Consistency

Consistency wins championships. Sure, that’s great and all, but lets be realistic. Everyone wants to win, every time they hit the speedway. We are close, but we need to keep finding a bit more speed to start competing for the winning position week in and week out.
Our weekend started Friday at Lernerville. It was Mid-Season championship night with a unique format. Any drivers in the top 10 in points get redrawn for the front spots, as long as they transfer through the heats. 7 drivers transferred so the top 7 spots were filled. I was pulled to start 6th. The track was very slick, up to a very slight cushion, making it extremely difficult to pass. We used momentum on the start to ride into 4th where we settled for most of the race. The difficult track conditions let the leader run away pretty easily while the rest of the field was held up. 3rd place made a mistake and spun, given me that position. By then, it was around lap 20. I worked over 2nd and finally got by with 2 to go but just ran out of time to even think about fighting for the win.
We regrouped for Port Royal on Saturday. The USAC wingless cars were there so the track was prepared with more bite. We pulled a strong #10 pill and started outside pole of Lucas Wolfe. We beat Lucas down into turn 1 and led the first 2 laps. He drove by me around the bottom and checked out as we settled for 2nd. The handicapped redraw lined us up 4th. I was able to get into 3rd and then 2nd after an awesome restart. Another yellow came out with 11 laps in the books. I traded sliders for the lead for 3 laps until i lost my downforce and was passed by Lucas Wolfe from 9th. He went on to take the lead and the win and we finished 4th.
