Tasting Victory Lane

It’s been an exciting start for myself and the BK77 Motorsports team while we await driver Mike Walter to recover and return to the seat. Our first race together at Port Royal ended in a 3rd place result after working very hard to improve the car, avoid wrecks, and protect the equipment from rough track conditions.
We followed that successful run into the 80th season opener at Selinsgrove Speedway on Friday. A strong qualifying effort gave us overall QuickTime. We backed that up with a heat race win from 3rd place and put ourselves in a very good position for the feature, rolling off from the pole against a strong field of cars. That helped set the tone early and kept us out of trouble as the night went on.
We lined up side-by-side with High Limit Driver Kerry Madsen to start the feature. We jumped out to a quick lead and maintained it through traffic and restarts. Cautions at laps 10 and 11 slowed our momentum but we held off challenges to stay out front, leading every lap and taking home our 2nd victory of the season, and 1st ever at Selinsgrove Speedway! The car was consistent all night, and the team executed well in each part of the program.
Port Royal the following day was a bit more challenging. We made progress on the racecar from our 1st night, but the stacked field didn’t allow anyone an opportunity to weasel their way to the front. We made some incorrect calls in dropped out of the heat race transfer spot. But we recovered through the B-Main to finish 4th and then drove from 24th to 17th in the A-Main. Hard charger was only +8 so that was almost us. Port Royal was back to its typical slick surface and I’m proud of our effects to improve the racecar. I’m confident we will be better when given the next opportunity.
