A Return to Port Royal

It was quite an exciting week for us at AJ Flick Racing as Port Royal announced their reopening plans with a 2 day show on June 13th and June 14th, 2020, with each night paying $5000 to win.
The first night of racing on June 13th was a pill draw show. A low pill draw lined us up outside pole of heat one. Track was pretty slick with one strong lane around the top cushion. I tried a slide job entering turn 1 on lap 1 and ended up losing 2nd place in the process. We filed into 3rd in line and ran there without issue until a restart with 2 to go. A tough slide job on me cost a ton of momentum and we faded to 5th on lap 7. Luckily, we were able to get back to 4th to make the A-Main.
The A-Main was pretty uneventful. We started 13th, struggled with the handling, survived some wrecks, and managed to finish 13th as well. At some point throughout the race, we broke off our RR Shock. The car was so bad however, that I never noticed until after the race was over.
We re-prepped the car for June 14th, which was a time trail show. A bad pill draw had us going out late in qualifying. We were good enough in the bite to put down a lap that qualified us 6th fastest, overall. This time lined us up on the pole in heat 2. A strong start pulled us out to the lead. We held off a hard charging Brent marks to hold on for th heat race win.
The luck was still with us as we pulled a #1 to start on the pole of the A-Main. The start was pretty even down the front stretch, however, the outside pole position car came down on the straightaway, hit our RF wheel, and caused us to pull a wheelie. When we landed, we bent some items in the steering. It didnt impact the speed of the car much, but I did drop to 5th place by the end of lap 1. We ran in 5th for the longest time, eventually fell to 6th, then fell to 7th on a late restart where we stayed until the checkered flag flew.
Car was pretty difficult to drive most of the weekend and we were pulling our hair out to try and find that extra drive. Its Tuesday 6/16/2020 as I type this and I think we already have a better plan in place to prepare for the upcoming weekend of racing.
