3-Peat & Western PA Speedweek!

We had been off for a few weeks. We knew we weren’t the fastest car locally, but we also didn’t know we were as far off as what we found out, when we raced against the World of Outlaws on May 20th. We went out late but still qualified 21st, struggled in the Heat Race, then failed to transfer out of the B-Main. The crew and I scratched our heads for the entire night, struggling to understand what was wrong, what we haven’t changed already, and why we are so far off the pace.
A good setup conversation led us to making some changes and we went back the next night to Tri-City Raceway Park. It felt like we had a totally different racecar. It finally reacted to changes we’ve made, and I could finally start driving it hard again. We won the heat race and finished 2nd in the feature.
We spent a week reviewing that setup and discussing ways to fine tune it and dial it in. It was a busy week with a lot of preparation. We decided to stay local and race Lernerville, PPMS, and Tri-City on Sunday, instead of going to Port Royal for the Weikert Memorial weekend. The decision paid off. Our hotlap/qualifying speed was back. We won every heat race we were entered in this week, started 5th in every feature, and won them all. We won every race we participated in and swept the entire weekend for the 2nd time in my career.
Its one of the largest turnarounds my team and I have ever had in a 7-day stretch. It would have happened without the hard work and dedication of my crew. We stepped back to determine out problems, discussed ways to address them, and enacted our gameplan. It worked, and we all seem to have our mojo back.
Western PA Speedweek starts tomorrow. 5 straight nights of racing and the weather looks beautiful. The schedule is:
Wednesday – Knox Raceway
Thursday – Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway
Friday – Lernerville Speedway
Saturday – Sharon Speedway
Sunday – Tri-City Raceway Park
Ill do my best to update everyone as we progress through this long, grueling, but exciting week.
