2020 – The Year of No Luck

Thursday - July - 2020

I dont even know where to start. Last Friday at Lernerville, we seemed to have most of our issues out of the way. We started 7th in the heat race but comfortably got to 2nd for a feature redraw spot. We started outside pole and took off with the early lead. After a lap 9 restart, we were spun out by the 2nd place car, while going into turn 1. I was fortunate enough to do a 360 a keep going but we filed into line in 7th. The race pretty much went nonstop at that point and we were onyl able to recover for 3rd.

We left for Port Royal on July 18th for the first night of the Weikert Memorial. An average 17th place qualifying time lined us up mid pack for the heat race. After the heat was done and the passing points were calculated, we lined up 17th for the feature. The car was pretty good early on and we were able to pass some great race cars. Unfortunately we faded as the race went on but a broken car on the last lap allowed us to secure 10th by the end of the race.

The night took a swing for the worse on Sunday. We went out 3rd from last in qualifying, and truthfully, the car was very good. Unfortunately, we just had absolutely no speed and we timed 36th out of 46. It was quite disheartening. We struggled in the heat race and was barely able to transfer out of the cmain with a 2nd. I was able to pass a few cars in the B-Main but didnt come close to the transfer. We took a provisional to give us an opportunity to toss some ideas at the racecar. Originally, it seemed like we had found some speed, but after a quick and early caution, it was evident we were still struggling with drive in the slick. We pulled in after being lapped for a 22nd place finish.

We figured that if there was any chance to get our luck straightened out, it would be at Lernerville against the World of Outlaws for the Don Martin memorial Silver Cup. I was wrong, and I should have known better. Immediately, during the first lap of hotlaps, the car started acting up. It was missing and cutting off. The issues seemed either fuel or electrical. We changed EVERYTHING. It makes no sense. it acted up in qualifying and the heat race. We couldn’t get it fixed so we called it quits and did not attempt the B-Main. On the bright side, we got to watch one heck of an Outlaw feature as Donny Schatz went 3rd to first on the final lap to win the race!

Luck doesnt last forever, whether its good or bad. It will change but we cant give up. We will look over the car from top to bottom to find this issue and will be ready to roll once the next race comes.
